Comments on two national policies that SAQA has proposed

Towards the end of last year, SAQA published two policies for comment.  The deadline for comments was extended and is today (22 January 2014).

In reading and commenting on the proposals, one had to bear in mind that policies

  • are statements of intent, and
  • these are overarching, i.e. they apply to all three sub-frameworks and the quality councils that are responsible for them

All of that said, the policies are generally quite sound.  My key comments related to that dealing with assessment and that certain parts of it need to be reviewed to accommodate assessments in a TVET and/or occupational environment.

My comments are  in the documents below.

Comments on the Proposed National Policy and Criteria for Designing and Implementing Assessment for NQF Qualifications and Part Qualifications January 2014

Comments on the proposed National Policy and Criteria for Credit Accumulation and Transfer January 2014

As we enter a new era in the post school sector in South Africa, I thought that a blot might be a useful vehicle to share my thoughts on what will emerge.

The intention is to be positive and constructive.

Join me on this journey.
